Qualified Investor visa: reduced real-estate threshold ends
The reduced US$300,000 real-estate threshold has a published end date of 15 October 2026. Applications after that date face the higher threshold.

15 SEPTEMBER 2026 Changed Latvia
New Immigration Law ends the real-estate and bank routes
The new Immigration Law, in force from 15 September 2026, ended the real-estate and subordinated bank-deposit investor routes. Business equity continues (from €50,000 plus a €10,000 state payment). A €150,000 route into a state-established alternative investment fund is written into the law but cannot be used until that fund exists, and citizens of Russia and Belarus are restricted from investor permits. Citizenship by investment: criteria revised
The Council of Ministers revised the criteria on 15 July 2026. The tracked job-creation route sits at JOD 500,000 outside Amman, with higher thresholds inside Amman.

14 JULY 2026 Deadline Costa Rica
Investor residence: sunset clause date
Law 9996 carried a sunset clause scheduled for 14 July 2026. The date has passed. As of early October 2026 we found no confirmed extension, and secondary sources report the threshold reverting to about US$200,000; confirm with Costa Rican counsel before relying on the route.

JULY 2025 Changed Luxembourg
Draft law would abolish the investor residence permit
Draft Law No 8586, submitted to the Chamber of Deputies in July 2025, would delete the investor residence permit (Article 53bis) from the immigration law altogether. Reports say only a handful of permits were issued in the first eight years. We have not confirmed that the bill has passed; check its status before relying on the route.

In Commission v Malta (Case C-181/23), the Grand Chamber held that granting nationality for predetermined payments is contrary to EU law. Malta's separate residence programme continues.

Long-Term Resident visa criteria improved
On 13 January 2025 the Cabinet approved changes to the Long-Term Resident visa, shifting the Wealthy Global Citizens category from an income test to an asset-based test requiring at least US$500,000 of stable assets and investment in Thailand.

EU suspends Schengen visa-free access for affected passports
The European Commission found serious deficiencies in Vanuatu's investor-citizenship schemes and suspended visa-free access, later proposing to make the suspension permanent. The first action of its kind against such a program.
